At the Harkers home, Mina told Arthur that Lucy's death was a big shock for them. Then, Mina asked Arthur how Lucy died. Arthur replied that he had returned from Amsterdam a week later that Mina had left Hythe. At that time, Lucy was very ill. She had her face pale and she was very thin. Arthur said his wife had dreams, she saw red eyes and gold dust moving in the air.
Then he said that Lucy left each night her bed. The dreams she had frightened him. Professor Van Helsing came from Amsterdam, and when he saw Lucy, he told Arthur that his wife was very ill. Professor examined Lucy carefully. He pointed out to Arthur that the only way for Lucy to stay alive was through a blood trasnfusion. Arthur offered Van Helsing to take his blood.
The marks on the neck of lucy, were very worrying for Van Helsing. He gave Lucy many garlic plants. The professor said that garlic has a very strong smell. One night, Lucy was sleeping in his room. When Arthur arrived in the morning, the house was in a deep silence. He saw that Lucy was in her bed with her eyes closed. She had put away the garlic flowers from her neck.
Arthur called Van Helsing to wake him. When the Proffesor saw Lucy, He told Arthur that Lucy was dying. The marks on her neck had disappeared. Van Helsing told Arthur they had to wake up Lucy because she could not die in her bed. At that time, Lucy opened her eyes, she smiled and looked at Arthur. Then she talk to him. Her voice was slow and strange. Lucy took the hand of her husband. Her fingers were cold. Lucy died and she was at peace now.
