In England, Mina was waiting for Jonathan to return. She was worried because she thought Harker was ill. He not returned to England, and the letters he sent from Castle Dracula had been short and strange. Her friend, Lucy West, wrote in a letter that her husband Arthur was in Amsterdam with Professor Van Helsing. Because of this, Lucy invited Mina to go to the town of Hythe, where she lived, to stay with her until Jonathan returns.
One morning, a ship had crashed on the shore. Lucy asked her servant if the ship came from England. The woman replied that it was a Russian ship that had come from a place called Varna. The ship was full of wooden boxes.
That night, Mina heard a noise and woke up. Lucy's bed was empty and and Lucy was nowhere in the house. Mina dressed and ran toward the street. She wondered where was Lucy. She thought that her friend was in the cemetery. And there she was. Mina saw something moving behind Lucy. She was amazed because she observed a white face with red eyes. When she reached Lucy, she was alone.
Lucy was half asleep, and the two friends returned to the house. When Mina was putting her on the bed, she saw two red marks on his throat. Then she wondered who made the marks. Mina knew that Lucy was ill, so she wanted to send a telegram to Arthur. But Lucy did not let her do it.
Then, on 19th August, Mina received a letter from a hospital in Budapest, which made her know that Jonathan was ill and that he asked for her.
Lucy told Mina that she should go to Budapest to see Jonathan. Mina went to Budapest. She could see him. She asked him to forget all the terrible things that had happened in the Castle Dracula.
Mina and Jonathan were married on 1st September in budapest. They returned to England on 18th September. They were on the streets of the city. Then Jonathan gave a terrible cry. He had seen the Count Dracula. He pointed a tall man who was talking to a beautiful woman. The man had a white and cruel face. When the Count smiled, Mina saw his red lips and white teeth.
When they came to his house, a servant opened the door. She delivered a telegram that had just arrived. The telegram was from Dr. Arthur West, the husband of her friend Lucy. The message was very short. It said that Lucy had died. Mina and Jonathan could not believe it. Mina said that Arthur should come and stay with them. And for that she would send him a telegram. That night, Jonathan told Mina all the horrible things that had happened in the Castle Dracula.
